Alisa Everitt watched with enthusiasm as Carrie Underwood kept out-performing other "American Idol" contestants and decided she should have a custom-made guitar made in Oklahoma.
"We were watching American Idol and we saw that she was from Oklahoma and my husband (Chad) wanted me to call her about making her a guitar," she said. "Whether she won or not I wanted to make sure she had something handmade from Oklahoma."
Everitt said she was able to reach Underwood's mother by phone in Checotah who asked what she wanted for her making the guitar.
"I don't want anything, just for her to play it," Everitt said. "I was more than proud to build her one and pay for it myself."
She added that her having the guitar would also expose the family business of Morgan Guitars near Skiatook to people throughout the country.
Everitt started making the guitar in April.

On May 25, 2005, Underwood became the fourth winer of American Idol. Underwood received the guitar on June 30.
Everitt said she talked to her mother Carole Underwood on the phone as Carrie Underwood opened up the package the guitar was in. She said Underwood told her mother that she loved the sound of the guitar and "it is beautiful". She said Underwood gave her approval of the guitar.
Underwood picked the wood and described how she wanted the guitar custom made to EverittEveritt starts out with the sides 1/16 inch thick and the back is 1/8 inch thick. The sides are put into a steamer and then into a mold for it's shape. The side is made of Rosewood and the top is out of Sitka Spruce wood. The top and back are glued together with the sides and then connected to the neck along with the bridge. She said she applies the finish and the strings are added.
Added touches include Underwood's name in pearl inlay with doves along the neck along with a pearl inlay and the headstock that says "Morgan". The guitar is insured for $5000.00
Everitt's ability to make a guitar comes from her father, Glen Morgan, who has been in the guitar making business for many years. Glen Morgan incorporated the business of Morgan Guitars in 1996 in West Tulsa.
The business was moved to outside of Skiatook near John Zink Ranch in 2001, at which time Everitt joined her father. They had a store in downtown Skiatook recently for about a year.
Everitt said guitars have been made for Reba McEntire's keyboar and guitar player Doug Sizemore, for Jimbo Whaley, a bluegrass player who performed five songs on the soundtrack for an upcoming movie called "Bell Witch". A guitar was also made for Ken Lovelace, who is the guitar player for Jerry Lee Lewis. She said this is just a few of many performers who have purchased a custom made guitar from them.
