Stayed at the Opal Sands for 6 nights for a conference. We took a cab from the airport so we didn’t have to deal with parking (there is a fee). The hotel lobby is up one flight from the entrance (via escalator or elevator) and is bright, modern and roomy. The pool, hot tubs, restaurant, spa, gift shop and access to some of the pool-side bars are through the lobby. We arrived around 4 or 5 pm, and our room was still not ready, but the front desk held our bags, and they completed us breakfast for a few days.
We were in room 1115, and the view was beautiful. All the rooms face the ocean (the rooms are only on one side of the hotel), so they will all have a beautiful view. The higher rooms seemed nice and also avoided some of the pool noise. The balcony was a decent side with frosted glass partitions between the other galleries. The place is a lovely size with a very comfortable bed. Our floor had a pantry area where they put out fruit and cookies during the day and also had water available.
The hotel is technically on the beach since you can walk through the pool area onto the beach, but you have to walkways to get to the water. Directly in front of the hotel, there is riprap (large stones) that provide protection from the sea but means that there isn’t a beach directly in front of the hotel – it is off to the side. There are several excellent restaurants and some shops within a short walk of the hotel.
The staff, in general, were amiable and give recommendations about how to hire a driver in cozumel for our next adventure. The front desk staff might need a bit more training. When we got our breakfast card, they gave us the wrong one, and we had to have them exchanged, and they also made some false charges and had to issue some credits upon checkout. Would definitely stay again.
The view at Opal Sands is fantastic, the rooms are beautiful, guests are treated wonderfully! We have stayed here multiple times and have always been pleased. It is a little pricey, but you get what you pay for. Well worth the extra $$ here. Will definitely stay here again when we return to the area.
I’ve been coming to Clearwater and staying at the sister hotel, Sand Pearl, for over 10 years and never felt the need to try out Opal Sands. Due to the Sand Pearl being 100% booked, I had to try Opal Sands, and I am glad I did. It was fabulous. New, friendly, clean with all the rooms overlooking the water, which is lovely. We saw dolphins, manatee, and giant fish.
Entertaining and beautiful hotel. The food was also top notch with lots of variety. And the pool staff was excellent. Bartenders Jake and Nick and server Emily treated us like royalty. They are all so lovely and so friendly. It was such a pleasure to spend time in their company and really enhanced our trip. Opal Sands, they are gems, and you are lucky to have them. I can’t wait to come back for a visit with my new friends.
